Why I'd rather be in Texas then Ohio...

As I was laying out by my boyfriend's pool in the beautiful 85 degree weather this weekend in Houston, Texas my mom called me from Ohio, where she too was laying out in, get this, 85 degree weather!!!

Well this came as a surprise to me for two reasons:
1. It was snowing last week up there.
2. Were lucky if it gets that hot up there in the middle of July!!
Oh, and now its back in the 50s....

Not that I'm surprised that its cooler up there again, that's how it usually is up there around now, its warm one day, then cold and raining (or snowing!) the next. And plus, we haven't had a warm day in April like that in over 100 years!!
In a city known for long winters there hasn't been a similar string of hot weather during the spring month of April since 1900, according to the National Climatic Data Center and National Weather Service.
If anything, I expected it to be snowing up there, like it was in March last year during the "Blizzard of 2008"(which I was there for and was snowed in at my dorm all weekend. I was not happy about that). Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that it's actually getting warmer up there, but I have a feeling that when I'm back home (in Strongsville--suburb of Cleveland) in three weeks, that it will STILL be in the 50s, maybe 60s if I'm lucky :(
So I'm going to try and enjoy this BEAUTIFUL Texas weather while I can, before I have to go back to wearing sweaters and boots over the summer...because I doubt we'll get another 85 degree day like it was this past weekend up there. But hey, a girl can hope...

Will this year be Cleveland's year?

When will Cleveland sports fans get the chance to watch their team win a title?!?! I found this story about the Cleveland Cavliers, and I must say I disagree.

In the six years that the Cavs have had Lebron James, fans have waited with anticipation for them to win the Championship. And for past six years, Cleveland fans have been let down. In the last two years especially, they have come so close, two years ago when they went up against the San Antonio Spurs in the Finals but lost and last year when they went up against the Boston Celtics in the second round of the Playoffs, and lost.

But this year, they have the best record in the NBA of the season, their coach, Mike Brown has been names NBA coach of the year AND of course "King James" who is one of the best players in the NBA right now, if not the best. Despite all of this, this article is trying to say that the Cavs will NOT win the championship because in past years, none of the teams who had the best record of the season did win the championship.

"The Cleveland Cavaliers are overrated, they aren't the best team in the NBA, and they won't win the championship unless LeBron goes into God-mode. In the 2006-2007 season Dallas had the best record and lost in the first round. In the 2005-2006 season Detroit had the best record and lost to Miami. In the 2004-2005 season Phoenix had the best record and lost to San Antonio. In the 2003-2004 season Indiana had the best record and lost to Detroit. In the 2001-2002 season Sacramento had the best record and lost to Los Angeles. Lastly, in 2000-2001 season San Antonio had the best record and lost to Los Angeles. The top seed in the league is only 2-6 at championship runs in the last seven years. And the two that won the title with the best record (Boston and San Antonio) had ferocious defenses"

As a Cleveland fan, this means nothing to me. I strongly believe that this is the Cavs year to win the Championship, they just swept the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the Playoffs, and I'm optimistic that they will go on to win the Finals.

I'll be honest, seven years ago, before we had James, I know most people in the Cleveland area were pretty much unaware that we had an NBA team. Not so much unaware, but we just knew they were so bad we didn't care. But when we got James six years ago, everyone was like, we could actually have a chance!

Cleveland fans have been teased by our teams countless times only to be let down. We have some of the MOST dedicated fans in the U.S., despite the fact that our teams let us down. The Cavs have come so far and I really believe that this is the year that fans will finally see them win! I think James is already in "God-mode", so how could they not?

class blog

This is my first blog, my media writing professor is making our class create blogs. I actually like the idea, it forces us to be creative and open up our minds. I would, however, much rather be writing news stories, but hey I'm up for new things, this could be fun.
