Don't judge a book by its cover....

Americans can be so cruel sometimes. Can you believe that people were taunting and making fun of Connie Culp (woman in pictures above) due to her disfigurement? This makes me sick.

Four years ago, Connie was shot in the face by her husband, leaving the middle of her face completely gone. After shooting her, her husband proceeded to shoot himslef.
[Her husband] survived with minor injuries and is serving a seven year sentence in prison. Connie Culp, 40 at the time, lost her nose, one eye, her upper jaw and upper lip, palate and lower eyelids. She couldn't eat solid food, drink from a cup, smell or taste. She could only breathe through a hole cut into her throat.
The scum bag (her EX husband) received a sentence of ONLY 7 years!! This is attempted murder, he is just LUCKY she did not die -- if she had died from this, he would be in jail for much longer. But only 7 years??? This is not enough time for him to rot and think about what a terrible person he is for what he did to poor Connie. If it were him I would have put the dirt bag in prison for the rest of his life, so he COULD rot there and think about what a terrible person he is for doing this to her. She will never be the same person she was before, she now has a different face, and even once she is done recovering physically, I don't believe that she will ever be able to recover fully from this emotionally and mentally.

Connie revealed her new face to the world today after being the first in the nation and the fourth in the world to receive the face transplant surgery. The Ohio native has been in and out of 30 surgeries since 2004, and finally has her new face! Based on her speech, she seems like such a strong woman. She has gone through so much, and was giving a moving speech to the audience on the Cleveland Clinic Campus. She said,
When somebody has a disfigurement or doesn't look as pretty as you, don't judge them," she said. "You never know what happened to them and you never know what might happen to you . . . . it might all be taken away.
The fact that people were making fun of her, makes me sick to my stomach. I can't believe how sick some people are. It is one thing to judge a person on their clothing or race or religion or appearance, but to judge them on a handicap or disfigurement, especially when they can't help it! People can be so cruel and hurtful. But I fully believe in karma (what goes around comes around) and if you're going to taunt someone like Connie, then you better expect something bad to be coming your way.

Before her accident, Connie was a beautiful 40-year-old woman, and after her accident and surgeries, I think she is even more beautiful then she was before. Her personality shines through her, and you're able to see what a beautiful person she is, especially after going through this life changing surgery.

I think everyone should listen to Connie -- don't judge people. It doesn't get you anywhere. It doesn't help you out. It just makes you a scum bag (like her husband)
